FAQs about Aegis
We are currently focusing on tops that integrate with Smartcap canopies. If Smartcap makes a canopy that fits your vehicle, we can create a topper that will work seamlessly with it. If you’re looking for something to mount to a trailer or a different style of canopy, we offer a generic flat mounting adapter that you can customize to fit your application.
At the moment, we are focusing on scaling up and producing units that integrate with Smartcap canopies. However, an Adventure Top designed to work with a roof rack system is currently in development.
Adventure Tops are currently available in Black or White to match the base colors of the Smartcap canopy.
Yes! One of the key features of the Adventure Top is that it’s always ready to explore and can be rapidly deployed. This means you can keep all your bedding in place, freeing up space in your vehicle for other gear and essentials.
The top provides 3″ of storage space across the entire width and length of the sleeping area. In some areas, due to the way the walls fold, there is an additional 1.75″ of space.
In my personal camper, I use a mattress underlay, a 3″ thick inflatable/foam-filled sleeping pad, two down blankets, and a couple of pillows—all of which remain in the unit when it’s closed.
The composite sandwich panels feature a honeycomb core, making them ultra-light, extremely tough, and highly resistant to shear forces, while also being more easily recyclable. These panels include a sealed air gap between the outer skins, but their R-value is lower compared to foam-cored panels. For example, a 20 mm thick composite panel has an R-value of 0.34 m²K/W, whereas a similar 20 mm thick PET foam-cored panel might achieve an R-value of 0.67 m²K/W.
We do offer a winter package that incorporates an EVA foam layer on the inside surface of the panels. This upgrade increases the R-value and, more importantly, improves the touch and feel of the panels in cold weather while also helping to reduce condensation.
It’s important to note that the R-value of the walls is just one part of the equation. Because the unit is so well-sealed (with all windows and vents closed), the space can be easily heated with a small diesel heater or another heat source.
Many recent changes to home building codes emphasize the importance of reducing air exchange to minimize heat loss. Properly sealing a structure reduces drafts and air leakage, which helps retain heat in the winter and cool air in the summer, ultimately reducing energy waste. Similarly, the Adventure Top’s design ensures minimal air exchange, making it highly efficient in maintaining a comfortable interior temperature.
